Definition of “Translation”: to express the sense of a word or text into another language

In 3lingo, we focus on that SENSE. Translation does not simply mean bringing a text from one language into another language mechanically by plucking the most bombastically sounding word out of the dictionary and squeezing it into the target text. The translator should understand each of the source words, as well as the overall meaning and background of the source text. This is a must in order to create a target text that is precise in content and context. This is the text that makes SENSE.

A good translation must not only accurately express the meaning and sense of the source text, it must read like an original to the native readers. This is equally important whether the translation is for a PhD thesis on “Phagocytic activity of leaves of Epimedium on mouse reticuloendotherial system” or a marketing slogan like “Power to the Max”. How do we get the translated text to sound native? We leave that to our native linguists who will be translating your text. They will transform your source document into text closest to your target readers’ heart – they might even drop you a note to tell you their fellow countrymen will not buy this sentence or that idea!

Proofreading and Editing

If you already have a translated text and are unsure about its quality (for instance when you have a Chinese document and you do not know any Chinese to have the slightest idea what those beautiful-looking characters mean), let our linguists do an evaluation on it and suggest you with a more accurate and improved version, if necessary.

In proofreading, we dissect and scrutinize every single translated sentence for errors and inconsistencies in orthography, punctuation, grammar, terminology and formatting. Sometimes we even catch one or two sentences that must have mysteriously found their way into the translated text. When we do proofreading, we compare both the source and target text to make sure your translator did not miss out any commas, words or, opps, paragraphs!
